It’s been a tough few days…

The market has been all over the place…

And on top of that Ivy hasn’t been sleeping well.

I think it’s a combination of a mild cold and just regular toddler growing pains… but it’s made evenings a challenge.

Usually I’d sit with her, read her a book for 10 minutes and she’d be out like a light.

But the last couple of days it’s been screaming and tears…

So last night, we took the ultimate risk…

We let her come in our bed.

Now this can go one of two ways, either she gets so excited that she wakes herself up even more… or she finally settles.

And last night, we put on an audiobook for her

These usually last for about 5 minutes… and when it finished I hear the cutest little voice say a word she’s never said before…

Story!

Clearly she likes it I thought, so I played the audiobook again…

And when it finishes lo and behold…

Story!

This happens about 3 more times, each time her enthusiasm waning a little as the tiredness takes over…

Story!… Story… storrryyy.

So when I finally laid her down in her own bed… she slept through the night without a peep… and we got a new word out of the entire ordeal.

And you know what, this is a beautiful metaphor for this whole investing situation…

The best moments come when things feel bleak.

Could it get worse

When you’re tired.

When everything feels noisy.

When the market is screaming and throwing a tantrum…

Most investors look at that and think…

“I need to get out of the room.”

But sometimes, if you can stay calm for just long enough, the market starts telling you a very different story…

More on that over the coming weeks…
