On June 23rd, South Korea halted stock trading to prevent a crash.
Samsung and SK Hynix, the two companies that make most of the world's memory chips, lost 12% of their value in a single morning.
The Nasdaq sank 2.2% later that afternoon… with the third memory giant Micron dropping 13%... after having risen nearly 800% over the previous year.
Since then, the headlines have been relentless.
Bloomberg ran a piece on hedge funds warning of an AI "super bubble."
Then a Treasury Department draft report leaked, warning that a downturn in AI could send shockwaves through stock markets and private credit
So it seems like everyone's got a bubble opinion now.
But… where were these people in late 2024?
Because by then, it was obvious to anyone paying attention that demand for memory chips was massively outstripping supply.
AI data centers needed more memory than the world could produce.
A blatant supply-and-demand mismatch that you could see coming from a mile away.
You didn't hear a peep from most financial media about it. No warnings. No excitement either, for that matter.
Just silence, right up until the stock prices did exactly what you'd expect a shortage to do to prices.
And if you weren't willing to call the setup, your opinion on the unwind can't be trusted either.
On the flip side, in January 2025, I recommended Micron to our Capital Gains Multiplier students at $80 a share. It’s up more than 1,000% since then.
Then in February of this year, I recommended put on a LEAPS trade on EWY (The South Korea ETF) based on a mispricing of volatility. That LEAPS trade doubled people's money in under 90 days.
So while the financial media gets to recycle the word "bubble" every time a stock has a red week… with zero accountability for what they said (or didn't say) on the way up. I don’t have that luxury.
Instead my name is attached to a real trade at a real price.
So if you want my take on if the bubble is going to burst imminently… no - there’s still room to run for now
But best believe when I see the signs of a slowdown, you’ll be first to hear about them
Oliver
