What’s the point? I hear them say
No chance they’ll pick up a book instead of scrolling on their phones…
Yeah that might be true…
But someone’s gotta try.
Because if I took the cynical route in life then I’d probably still be working that market research job I had at the beginning of my career…
And I certainly wouldn’t have taken the risks to start a financial publishing company on the day the market dropped 9% in March 2020…
So even if I can convince just a handful of teenagers to up their financial literacy… then my job is done.
Because here’s the reality…
76% of teachers believe that students graduate high school without adequate financial knowledge…
43% of US teenagers believe an 18% interest rate is manageable
42% of teens are “terrified” that they won’t have enough money to achieve their future goals
And my personal favourite…
82% of adults wish they'd been required to take personal finance in high school
So if you know anything about how slowly the education system moves… we ain’t getting lessons on compound interest, budgeting or debt anytime soon
And until that happens, I’ll happily take on some of the burden…
And like I wrote about yesterday, to make this fun I’m having a competition
The winner gets a free virtual ticket to Investormania (or money off your in-person ticket if you’re joining us in London) + physical copies of 3 of my books
2 runners up get 1 copy of any one of my books
Here’s how to enter…
Step 1: Grab a copy of the book (the Kindle version is literally 99c)
Step 2: Leave a review after it arrives (instructions on how to do that are here)
Step 3: Forward me a screenshot of said review
Winners will be chosen at random and I’ll announce them next week
Happy reading
Oliver
